I am never more at home than walking along the beach or cliff top absorbing the atmosphere, being energised by the weather or on a boat seeing the coast from a different angle. From this perspective it is quite easy to lose ones idea of known coastal shapes, all part of the experience!
Either full blown sketches or loose scribbles on spare paper will be the starting points. I have a large collection of sketchbooks with images waiting patiently to ‘become’ something more… Work is completed back in my studio, where monoprinting also takes place.
I like to have 3 or 4 paintings on the go at once, though if working on pet portraits, these definitely have to be started and finished individually.
